You must have access to the backup encryption key. After booting, select whether or not to start network support probably no for most users. Click "Go" at bottom left. Click "HP". Here is a thread similar to the posted question, see if that helps. I have not used the HP Drive Encryption but Microsoft BitLocker has a way to save the password or key file to allow the owner to recover in case of a problem. Maybe use that system instead. If the data and OS are encrypted by the same program and the encryption key is lost, then most likely all the data is locked.
If you have the encryption key saved so it can be used by another computer, then you possibly can unlock the data drive - d: and recovery the data with the other computer. If the encryption key was not saved, then most likely it cannot be recovered.

Neither Hewlett Packard nor McAfee provide any warranties either explicit or implied that any encrypted files can be retrieved using DiskTech or any other tool.
Prior to encrypting any data, the user is advised to utilize backup utilities and perform frequent backups of their data to secure media. You must have access to the backup encryption key. The files on the hard drive are still encrypted when this retrieval process is completed, and you will not be able to boot from this hard drive unless it is rebuilt.
You may choose to store the hard drive in a secure location for future access to the files remaining on it. The files on the hard drive will not be accessible except through the DiskTech tool. The files on the self encrypting drive should now be accessible. The procedure will unlock the drive in most cases. You should deactivate Drive Encryption in the ProtectTools Administrator console to restore it to the proper state.
You may reactivate Drive Encryption after the state is restored, and your system should return to normal operation. You may choose to rebuild the operating system on the computer using OEM disks, or entering the HP Recovery Manager by pressing the F11 key during the boot process if the recovery partition remains on the machine. If the data cannot be retrieved using the DiskTech tool, you may contact HP Technical Support but it is doubtful there is anything more HP can do if you followed the correct procedures in this document.
